Watershed Development Project

Order has been implemented various soil & water conservation projects like Integrated watershed Management project (IWMP) in Hassan district under Agriculture department, Govt of Karnataka. Nabard supported participatory watershed development project in Hassan and Tumkur district covering 6000 Hectare.

'Watershed' The rain water falls and gets collected and later flows through various streams/drains and comes together from the catchment/basin then flows out of the particular area through a single exit point called outlet. The area where this whole process takes place is called Watershed Area. It does not have a particular measurement or shape. It is usually in the shape of a basin. The exit point is usually a pond, open tank or stream.

In Gandasi hobli 5 such micro watershed areas were identified with the help of maps and by transect. The watershed area is selected based on information and suggestions of experts and local people. The project did not start at once in all the areas, it was implemented phase by phase.
